Nike「021‑
Nike’s pop‑up tennis project “021‑Home Court of Victory” is located on the rooftop of the former Fuxin Flour Mill at Suhewan, Jing’an District, Shanghai, close to Suhewan MixC World, facing Suzhou Creek and surrounded by Shikumen residential blocks. As precious heritage of Shanghai’s national modern industry, Fuxin Flour Mill sits along the Suhewan urban‑renewal corridor. Launched in sync with the Rolex Shanghai Masters tennis tournament, the project adopts Shanghai’s area code “021” as its title. By placing professional tennis facilities atop a historic industrial rooftop, it creates a collision between old‑time industrial relics, traditional Shikumen architecture and modern sports culture, representing an innovative trial for short‑term cultural‑sports activation of preserved old buildings.
In terms of spatial styling and on‑site production, the project adopts modular temporary construction without altering the building’s main structure. Three standard tennis courts are built on the existing rooftop platform with professional sports flooring in blue and purple. Perimeter barriers are printed with the slogan “Passion knows no hierarchy, competition knows no compromise” and tennis‑themed visuals. Retaining the original building edges, the venue overlooks Suzhou Creek and rows of red‑tiled Shikumen roofs, generating a striking visual contrast of “tennis on top of historic factories”. All installations are temporary and will be fully dismantled after the event to restore the rooftop, ensuring minimal intervention to the heritage building.
During the campaign, serving as an off‑site venue for the tennis tournament, the rooftop courts open for reservation to tennis fans. On‑site programs include tennis workshops, athlete guest sessions and community matches, bringing professional tennis out of enclosed stadiums into the urban landscape. From the perspective of project value and marketing communication, the one‑of‑the‑fold scenery combining industrial rooftop, river view and Shikumen houses delivers highly photogenic scenes. Aerial shots fuel massive UGC content across social media platforms. Connecting with the popularity of the Shanghai Masters, offline experiences engage tennis communities and redefine brand presentation beyond conventional retail spaces, embedding sports spirit into local urban memory. Integrating industrial heritage, urban‑renewal narrative, tournament IP and brand promotion, the project builds a complete marketing closed‑loop of event heat docking, on‑site participation and viral online dissemination. It provides a valuable reference for sports brands to launch pop‑up events within historic urban spaces.
