On April 22, Volvo Group China held a virtual event to commemorate its 30th Anniversary in China. More than 1,000 Volvo Group China employees and representatives from local dealers, customers and partners gathered online to look back on this remarkable journey together.

Over the course of the last 30 years, Volvo Group has grown and thrived in China since the setup of its first representative office in Beijing.

Deputy CEO Jan Gurander and Ma Jun, President of Volvo (China) Investment Co., Ltd. both spoke on this special occasion.

“We are happy to see that China is accelerating towards a high-quality development model and a greener, more balanced, and innovation-driven economy. As a leading force driving this transformation globally, Volvo Group will further collaborate with our Chinese partners and customers to capture these opportunities and achieve the goals, both in decarbonization and business development. Together, we will be able to hand over society in a better shape to the next generations,” says Jan Gurander.

“Great historical changes are happening in China and globally, and people’s expectations for the transportation and infrastructure industries are also changing substantially. It is crucial for us to apply the concept of sustainability to the entire process of business operations, bringing together upstream and downstream partners, and jointly translate the sustainability concept of low carbon and environmental protection into practice, so as to transform industries with innovative and sustainable solutions, and help China achieve the dual goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality,” says Ma Jun.

Representatives from government and academia were also invited to share their memories with Volvo Group China over the years. Ms. Helena Sångeland, the Swedish Ambassador to China, and QIAN Xiaojun, Professor at the School of Economics and Management and Director of the Research Center for the Green Economy and Sustainable Development at Tsinghua University, both recognized Volvo Group’s accomplishments in China and sent their best wishes for the company’s future development.

At the end of the event, all participants – both online and on-site – inaugurated the Volvo Group China 30th Anniversary logo, in the form of a photo made up of everyone’s WeChat profile photos, at the event’s conclusion.
