On the evening of 22 October 2026, Lacoste brought its Fall-Winter 2026 collection to Guangfulin Heritage Park in Songjiang, Shanghai, in front of an invited audience of more than four hundred guests. It was the first time since Pelagia Kolotouros became creative director that the house has presented a complete seasonal runway outside Paris; the same looks had opened at Roland-Garros in March, and the Shanghai edition was conceived as a second reading rather than a repeat. Guangfulin is often described as the root of Shanghai. The park covers some sixty hectares, and its archaeological layers reach back roughly four thousand years to the Neolithic settlement that gave the district its name. At its centre, three sloped-roof structures float on the surface of Fulin Lake. Designed by CCDI, with the main exhibition halls sunk below the waterline, they produce an architecture that is half above and half beneath the lake, and they became the physical base for this runway.
The collection, Washed Out Match, Reimagined, starts from a single moment in 1923, when a downpour interrupted a match René Lacoste was playing at Deauville. The court emptied; attention moved to the stands. The rainwear, coats and capes that spectators pulled on became the season's point of departure, and the house read that instinctive gesture of dressing for weather as a design brief rather than an accident. The designs therefore address the people watching rather than only the people playing. Trench coats turn into poncho-like polos, bonded technical wool is layered with transparent nylon, and velvet sets a soft, lustrous counterpoint against the signature René blazer. A collaboration with Mackintosh, the Scottish specialist in waterproofing, folds rainproof tracksuits, pleated trench skirts and hybrid shirt-jackets into the same language. The palette stays close to muted earth tones, so the technical surfaces and the plush ones share a single register.
The scenography was organised around water. A walkway lit in orange-red crosses the lake and stretches the arrival route, ending at a clay-red court with a mirrored surface. Models moved along the shoreline while the roofs of the historic buildings and their own silhouettes were carried on the water. The floor was built thin and highly reflective, so steps left shallow trails of water; guests sat on three sides with the sightline held deliberately low, closer to a match suspended by rain, with everyone waiting for the sky to clear. Lighting was kept narrow and warm along the route, which allowed the lake and the eaves to carry the depth of the picture instead of a built backdrop. Sound, seating and circulation were planned so that the audience stayed inside the same frame as the models from entrance to exit, and the historic structures never became decoration but the horizon of the set.
Beyond the runway, the evening worked as a complete market operation. Four looks co-created with global ambassador Wang Yibo were unveiled and released straight away. The capsule translates his personal interests, including outdoor and extreme sports, into garment features rather than printed names, and it marks a step in a partnership that began in 2024. Viewers watching the livestream could order runway pieces and the capsule at the same moment, compressing the distance between show and shop into a single night. Chief executive Thierry Guibert framed the Shanghai staging as a dialogue between French heritage and Chinese culture rather than a touring copy. Guests included Wang Yibo, Taylor Zakhar Perez, Nicole Scherzinger, Tony Leung Ka-Fai, Zhu Zhu, Wang Tianchen, Zhou Yiran, Chen Bibi and Fan Shaoxun, and the brand held an after-party on the site. Choosing a civic landmark such as Guangfulin placed the house's sporting memory and Shanghai's local history in the same frame, while the broadcast and the immediate sale turned a heritage setting into a retail channel. The show was less a presentation than a brand event that could convert on the night and stay in the city's memory afterwards.
